Calum Stevens
Calum Stevens is an artist and designer based in Peckham, South East London, whose practice investigates the boundary between traditional craft and industrial ergonomics. His work is currently rooted in furniture, largely through hand-carving timber to form domestic objects such as stools, benches, mirrors, and tables.
Pulling reference from the world of aerodynamics, his practice touches upon subtle forms found in high-performance equipment used for extreme sports and automobile design. In doing so, there is a suggestion of hyper-functionality within Calum’s work, as if the pieces are fit for harsher, more demanding environments than the domestic world.
